Situation: Start working on second enemy archetype: Shield. Start creating rooms and adding corre gameplay elements.

Task:

  • Find a new model for shield enemy
  • Setup basic logic using goblin behaviour for visualisation
  • Combine walk animation with shield block using animation masks

Action: Using the previously imported assets, I selected a skeleton warrior to be the shield character because of their knight like appearance. I gave him a shield in his left hand and decided to pick his weapon another time while I work on the attacks.

Shield Archetype

I used the same walk animation as the goblin but added an upper body layer which uses a mask of only the top half of the body. With this active we can put the idle blocking animation from mixamo in to give the illusion of walking while blocking.

Finally for the end of this period, I put the goblins behavior graph on the shield, slowing down the movement speed, to visualise how the new enemy would look in the game.

Result: The second archetype has made good progress. During the Christmas break I am going to design some unique attacks using the unity particle system.
